If you still need some last minute presents for this holiday season, come on out to the Athens FFA and FFA Alumni Farm Toy Show and Craft Sale on Sunday, December 15th at the Athens High School.
New this year is a he pedal tractor pull for kids ages 4-10. The pull starts at noon with registration at 11am.
The 8th grade agriculture students learned about service learning and completed a service learning project. They made fleece tie blankets for the cats at the Humane Society of Marathon County.
One of our FFA members attended the I Am Conference in Stevens Point, where she learned about becoming a better individual so she can be a great leader. The I Am conference is a national leadership conference for juniors and seniors.
Eight FFA members headed down to Indianapolis for the 97th National FFA Convention. On our way we stopped at the Case IH headquarters in Racine for a tour of their factory. It takes them 3 days to construct one tractor.
On day 2 we attended the general session in the morning and listened to a speech by Temple Grandin and then headed to the Indianapolis Speedway where we toured their facility. The speedway is the oldest in the United States, and was constructed in 1909.
On our last day we attended the last session where we watched the Wisconsin officer candidate be elected to the National team.

The Fish and Wildlife class made Biltmore Sticks for their lab this week. Biltmore sticks are used in Forestry to measure the diameter and height of trees.

Over 450 FFA members and advisors gathered at Thorp High School for the Fall Leadership Workshops or FLWs on Wednesday. Our FFA members learned how valuable they are within the organization, as well as what they can do throughout the year and our officers learned about their specific positions and the roles they play within our chapter.
Picture retake day for the High school and Middle school is September 26th 7:30-12:30. If students did not get their picture taken they will need to this day.

Our Athens FFA members wrapped up the fair season by showing at the Athens Fair. The FFA members had another successful showing and came away with a bunch of awards. Our members participated in the following project areas: dogs, rabbits, poultry, horses, sheep, dairy, cultural arts and natural and soil sciences.
One of our FFA members was also crowned Athens Fair Queen!

6th Grade Jumpstart and Freshmen SOAR date is set for Tuesday, August 20th.
6th graders (and new middle school students) are encouraged to join us from 8-11:30am to meet with some staff members and get to know your classmates and go through your class schedule.
Freshmen (and new high school students) are encouraged to join us from 12:30-3:30pm, to meet some of your teachers and classmates and go through your class schedules.
Parents, please join us from 6-7pm in the HS gym to meet the principal and some teachers and to review what the year will look like.

Fair #2 is in the books for our FFA members, and they participated in the Dairy, Sheep, Horse, and Dog projects. They did a great job coming home with Grand Champion Handler in dogs, the Grand and reserve junior champions in the Any other Dairy heifer show, two dairy show showmanship class winners, and many other ribbons and acknowledgments from the week. Our third and last fair is the Athens Fair.
Summer Marching Band time is here!
All BAND students in grades 8-12 are encouraged to attend Marching Rehearsals, starting Monday, August 5th, from 6-7:30pm at the Athens High School music room.
